Kyiv, Ukraine – In one of the most intense assaults in recent months, Russia launched over 40 Iranian-made Shahed drones at various targets across Ukraine early Sunday morning. Ukrainian air defense systems successfully intercepted most of the drones, but several managed to breach the defenses, causing serious damage to infrastructure and injuring at least four civilians in the capital city of Kyiv.
Emergency services were deployed to several districts of Kyiv, where residential buildings and businesses were damaged by falling debris from intercepted drones. Authorities also reported power outages and fires in some neighborhoods.
This wave of drone attacks marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, coming just days after NATO announced an increase in military aid to Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly strike on innocent civilians” and appealed to Western allies for increased support in the form of advanced air defense systems.
Meanwhile, the international community is closely monitoring the situation. The European Union and the United States have strongly condemned Russia’s latest actions, warning of potential new sanctions.
As the war enters another violent phase, Ukrainian citizens remain resilient in the face of continued aggression.
