India is on high alert following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, located in the Anant nag district of Jammu and Kashmir. The attack, which targeted security personnel in the region, has triggered an urgent response from the central government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has convened a high-level security meeting in New Delhi to assess the situation and discuss immediate countermeasures. Sources close to the matter say intelligence and defense officials are considering a robust military and diplomatic response to what is being labeled a “well-planned act of cross-border terrorism.”
What Happened in Pahalgam?
According to early reports, heavily armed militants ambushed a CRPF convoy on a forested stretch near Pahalgam, leading to multiple casualties. At least 5 jawans were martyred, and several others sustained injuries. The area has since been cordoned off, and search operations are ongoing.
Witnesses reported intense gunfire that lasted nearly an hour, suggesting that the militants were well-trained and strategically placed.
PM Modi’s Emergency Security Briefing
Following the attack, PM Modi chaired a key security and intelligence meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The meeting included top officials from the National Security Council, Ministry of Home Affairs, Army, and intelligence agencies like RAW and IB.
“India will give a strong and decisive response to those behind the attack,” sources quoted the PM as saying during the meeting.
Center Vows Retaliation
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has condemned the attack and assured the nation that the perpetrators will not go unpunished. The government has hinted at potential cross-border action if investigations confirm the involvement of Pakistan-based terror outfits.
Security across Jammu and Kashmir has been heightened, with additional troops deployed in sensitive zones. Surveillance along the Line of Control (LoC) has also been intensified.
Public Reaction and Political Condemnation
Political leaders across party lines have condemned the attack, expressing solidarity with the armed forces. Citizens took to social media to demand justice and pay tribute to the martyred soldiers.
The opposition has urged the government to ensure full protection for troops stationed in high-risk areas and called for a comprehensive anti-terror strategy in Kashmir.
